School Eco Team
A greener school in prospect…..
The recently created School’s Eco Team are delighted to have met their target of achieving the Bronze Eco-Schools’ Award before the end of Term 3.
We are looking forward to participating in the Eco-Schools’ Energy Monitoring Project between 23rd February and 11th May 2009 and at the moment we are busy making plans and applying for a variety of grants, with the support of like-minded and enthusiastic parents.
The Eco Team have already raised £158.64, which will initially go towards improving resources for gardening and developing vegetable beds for all classes around the school.
On 9th March the team commenced their energy monitoring project, recording temperatures at the beginning and close of the school day, the levelt of greenhouse gases produced, the amount of electricity used and the costs involved. This is in preparation for putting together a strategic plan to reduce emissions and use of electricity throughout the school and how this directly impacts on costs and emissions. An exciting project,which is particularly significant as schools are responsible for more than 50% of the Local Authority’s emissions.
