SEND
We are an inclusive school and we strive to provide an exceptionally high quality of teaching that is differentiated to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Our ‘whole school’ approach aims to ensure that every child can access the full curriculum within the classroom. As defined in the SEND Code of Practice (2014): a child or young person has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability, which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of other pupils of the same age. Special educational provision means educational provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of the same age.
Our staff receive regular training to support them to meet the needs of children with SEND and we draw on a number of external agencies, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, autism specialists and counsellors. If a child is assessed as needing special educational provision, the class teacher together with the SENDCo and in discussion with the child’s parents/ carers will develop an IEP (Individual Education Plan), which will outline the support to be provided and set targets for progress which will be reviewed every six weeks.
If parents/carers have concerns relating to their child’s learning then they should initially discuss these with their child’s class teacher who knows the child best. Parents may also contact the SENDCo, or the Headteacher directly if they feel this is more appropriate.
